Mark Roebuck CD Release Party

with special guest Michael Coleman

Mark Roebuck, founder of the critically acclaimed '80s power pop band The Deal, has released his new album "The World And All Within".

Featuring Mark's strongly personal songwriting brought to life with layers of vocal harmony, propulsive rhythms and big guitars,  The World And All Within builds on Mark's legacy of power pop with a twist.   Absolute Powerpop says the new album “is a wonderful collection of Byrds/Big Star/Badfinger-styled pop”, and Powerpopaholic  says it is “a powerful CD of harmonic, driving rock… Highly recommended”.

Supported on the recording by former Deal drummer Michael Clarke and producer Tim Ryan on bass, guitar, and keys, Mark's performances on the new album recall the best days of The Deal as well as classic power pop touchstones such as Big Star, The Posies, and The Raspberries, sprinkled with bits of The Beach Boys and The Who.  Adding the stellar talents of Rusty Speidel on guitar and Chris Holden on keys, Mark and band are currently showcasing the new album, along with some choice covers.

In 1988 Musician magazine named The Deal one of the top 20 unsigned bands in the world.  Later signed to Bearsville/Warner Brothers Records,  The Deal experienced flashes of brilliance and close calls with big success but ultimately dissolved.   Fast forward to 2003, when Not Lame Records released Goodbye September, an anthology of key moments from The Deal's recorded legacy.  The CD met with rave reviews, and was one of Not Lame’s best sellers of 2003. Gary Glauber of Pop Matters Music Magazine cited it as one of the top ten releases of 2003. Rick Schadelbauer wrote in Amplifier Magazine that the CD was “intelligent, quirky pop with a heart…keeping it hidden any longer would have been truly criminal.”

In 2005 Mark resurfaced with the Big Circle album Things May Change.  The All Music Guide's Lindsay Planer gave the album 4 stars, saying it was “a stunning collection of interesting modern jangle-pop compositions, brimming with catchy and charismatic hooks... Mark Roebuck’s material is as brilliant as ever.” In Shindig Magazine, Jon Mills said “It’s way better than most American Power Pop.”

In 2005 Mark also released Imagine We Were by Tribe of Heaven, a collection of recordings  done with Dave Matthews in 1989-90 that has become one of CD Baby’s 20 top selling albums of all time. One of the cuts from the album, “The Song That Jane Likes,” also appeared on the Dave Matthews Band’s platinum-selling release, Remember Two Things. The song was also featured on the band's Live At the Gorge album, which premiered in Billboard’s Top Ten List in the summer of 2004 and which ultimately achieved gold record status.

In 2006 Mark returned with Some Half-Remembered Thing, a striking collection of power pop recorded with Noonday Ruin, a band comprised of several former members of Big Circle. Bruce Brodeen, president of Not Lame Records, wrote that “Mark soars and shines as only he can. He has one of the more unique and truly beautiful voices you'll hear in pop…”.

In 2011 Mark Roebuck and Tony Fischer released Midnight to Morning, an album with an emphasis on elaborate, multi-layered harmony and chiming acoustic guitars. Ray Gianchetti of Kool Kat Music  wrote that “…it’s a gorgeous acoustic project…we hear strains of Arthur Lee, Love and America throughout this beautiful record…”

The release of The World And All Within highlights Mark's growth as a songwriter whose talent continues to evolve but whose energy remains undiminished.
