The Currys / Will Overman Band

About The Currys: The Currys have developed their brand of harmony-rich Americana through summers of writing and performing on the Florida Gulf Coast. In the spring of 2013, brothers Jimmy and Tommy Curry and cousin Galen Curry relocated to Charlottesville, Virginia, to record their debut album Follow. Their sophomore effort, West of Here (scheduled for release in early 2016) stakes a claim to the heritage of folk music while giving voice to the trio’s contemporary sound.

About Will Overman Band: The music of Will Overman Band, call it "amped-up folk rock", is as energetic as it is passionate. The Charlottesville, Va based band has a unique sound that can be both haunting and evocative, yet sincere and sweet.
Musically and lyrically, the band draws from its Virginia roots, producing a rare combination of enticing harmony and straight-ahead, hard-charging rhythm and riffs. Or, as one fan put it, “hearty as a home-cooked Southern meal.”

The band is composed of Overman, on guitar and vocals; Daniel McCarthy, guitar; Brittney Wagner on vocals; J Wilkerson on bass; and Christopher Helms, drums. Drawing comparisons to The Avetts and Jason Isbell, the band carries an unwavering commitment to its music — and to its fans. That music and those lyrics, as the Huffington Post wrote, seem to draw “ … from the experiences of someone much older.”

2015 was a big year for the band. In January they released an EP Die Where I Began to a sold out crowd in Norfolk, Va. Their Fall Tour took them all over the East Coast from New York City to Nashville. They broke into the festival circuit at Rooster Walk, where they were coined as one of the Huffington Post’s “Favorite Merlefest and Rooster Walk Musical Discoveries”. And they headlined their first show at Charlottesville’s historic Jefferson Theater. Already slated to play at Merlefest and release their debut LP, 2016 looks to be even brighter.

Soulful and unforgettable. Addictive and sometimes playful. Meaningful and real. Those factors, plus a transcendent passion and unyielding commitment to craft, are what truly define this rising, must-see group of talented young musicians.
