Dump

with Sloppy Heads and Girl Choir

The Southern is pleased to present a rare live appearance of Dump.  Dump is James McNew's moniker for his solo performances and recordings.  As bassist for indie rock fans' fave Yo La Tengo since 1992, McNew has toured the world and brought the rock.  But as Dump, he has released a series of low-fi home recorded records that charm listeners with great pop songs and noisy sound collages. Dump's pleas for tenderness sometimes echo the haunting beauty of some of Yo La Tengo's work, but can also deliver the power pop punches.

Charlottesville's own Girl Choir sprays out staccato bursts of well-crafted pop-songs with a sense of devil-may-care recklessness. Audiences never know whether a performance may melt down or soar, but they can count on the band's energy and verve. Every show is its own moment, and one may even find the most jaded club denizens gamboling to Girl Choir's cadence.

Sloppy Heads hail from Brooklyn and are celebrating the recent release of their first album,Useless Smile, which was mixed by James McNew (who also makes a guest appearance on the record).  Primitive, playful and unpredictable, Sloppy Heads move from Shangri-Las styled confessionals to fuzzed out garage rock jams, all the while maintaining an engaging innocence.
