What is your COVID-19 Vaccination policy?

HEALTH & SAFETY RULES

The Southern is no longer requiring attendees to provide proof of vaccination or negative test for entry to the venue. Masking is at the patron's discretion but is not required. If a performer decides that they would like a more stringent policy in place for their show, we will enforce that. Any individual show policies will be posted on the event website.

COVID-19 WARNING

COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. There is an inherent and elevated risk of exposure to COVID-19 in any public place or place where people come together and there is no guarantee, express or implied, that those attending a Starr Hill Presents event will not be exposed to COVID-19.

How old do you have to be to attend shows at The Southern Café & Music Hall?

Unless otherwise posted The Southern is all ages. We do suggest a guardian accompany any patrons under the age of 14.

Do I need ID to enter the The Southern?

IDs are currently required as part of our COVID-19 vaccination/test policy. A state issued ID is also required if you plan on drinking alcohol. Because we are an all-ages venue and restaurant, we take checking ID’s very seriously. In compliance with Virginia laws anyone 21 and older who plans on drinking alcohol will have to show a valid, non-expired, government issued photo ID, no matter how old you think you may look. Anyone without proper ID, regardless of age, will be treated as under 21 and not allowed to buy, hold or drink alcohol. This policy is strictly enforced and any violation will result in immediate ejection from the venue. If a show is 18+ every patron will need to show identification. 18+ shows will be listed on our website, social media, & venue entrances. We reserve the right to refuse entry for any patron, at any time for any reason.

Does the The Southern have seats?

The Southern is a full service restaurant and as such, there is ample seating located within the Café portion of the business to accommodate those wishing to dine or sit at the bar.

Within the venue, there is limited seating on a first come, first served basis. Occasionally The Southern hosts general admission seated shows or reserved seated shows which will be clearly noted on the website and within the venue. Patrons with special needs should call 434.977.5590 in advance to make arrangements.

Is The Southern ADA Accessible?

The Southern Café & Music Hall offers accessible accommodations to patrons with ADA requirements. Our Café, venue and select bathrooms are fully accessible. The majority of our events are general admission therefore, there is not a specific ADA ticketing option.

We are located on the pedestrian Downtown Mall. Patrons requiring the most convenient access to the music hall should be dropped off at the corner of First Street and Water Street.

If you have special requests, simply ask our staff once you arrive or call us at 434.977.5590 and we will be glad to assist you.

What time does the band go on?

The showtime is always listed within the event detail page and on your ticket. As a rule, doors for the venue are 30 minutes prior to showtime. However, the Café connected to the venue will open 2 hours prior to any showtime should you wish to dine before the performance.

Set times vary but the support act will always start when the showtime is listed unless the show is designated 'An Evening with', in which case there will be no opener and the headling act will start at the designated showtime. If there is 1 support act then the headliner generally takes the stage 1 hour after the listed showtime. Please keep in mind that set times, as well as opening acts, are always subject to change without notice.

Things that are NOT allowed in The Southern:

Firearms, pocket knives, pepper spray, flasks, outside food and drinks, utility tools, laser pens, vape pens, fireworks, glass, backpacks and other large bags or anything that could be considered dangerous or contraband will not be allowed in the building. Purses and bags may be searched prior to entry.

Does the venue allow for re-entry? What about smoking?

In most cases, The Southern does allow re-entry. Normally, your wristband is only required for re-entry but keeping your ticket stub handy is encouraged. You may freely move between the Café and venue with a wristband. The Southern does not allow any smoking at all within the building including E-cigs and Vaporizor Pens. However with re-entry you can smoke outside.

What are your policies regarding photo/video/audio?

Recording policies are at the bands discretion and change night to night. Professional Cameras with a removable lens are not permitted without an approved photo pass obtained from artist management and flash photography is never permitted.

How do I get a photo pass or schedule an interview with the band?
