Wes Swing Release Show

with Gull

About Wes Swing:

The release of Wes Swing's And The Heart marks the return of two wayward musicians to Charlottesville. The follow up to his 2011 debut Through a Fogged Glass features Wes Swing's signature blending of literary songwriting and modern classical composition with Paul Curreri's experimental electronics.

Many of the songs that would become And The Heart began in studios in San Francisco, where Swing spent several years after the release of his first album. Curreri joined the current project as producer while living in Austin, where Swing and Curreri met to begin the collaborative aspects of the record - expanding the sonic canvas to include Curreri's library of analog synthesizers and drum machines.  Eventually And The Heart was finalized in Charlottesville as Swing and Curreri both found their way back to town in 2016, adding percussion by Brian Caputo and harmonies from Devon Sproule.

Using deliberately sparse and stark instrumentation, And The Heart offers stunning vocal performances on "Missing Winter" and "Mirrors." These sections of intimate and personal performance transition beautifully into electronic escapades and flourishing full-band crescendos. With this album, Swing takes another step into the avant-garde of alternative folk.

About Gull:

Nathaniel Rappole’s solo project Gull is best described as a drum; a living, breathing, squawking drum that cries out assorted music of creatures past and delivers it from a single unique perspective; a communal music broadcast of blood and bile left as an offering on the altar of sound.

Gull has been active for more than a decade and has recorded a 7", 3 EP's and 2 full length albums and has spent the better part of the past 6 years touring vigorously ~ playing venues, on the streets and in the wilds of North and Central America, Kenya and Europe.
Gull has toured in support of White Rabbits, Tres Mts and RNDM and has shared the bar arena with the likes of Silver Apples, Girl Talk, Deerhoof, Adrian Belew, Panda Bear and Melt Banana.
