Jackass Flats / Gallatin Canyon

About Jackass Flats:

Nearly a decade ago, Jackass Flats began their journey as a bluegrass band chasing the scene up and down the east coast: country festivals in the middle of nowhere, bars, dives, late nights, busking in the cities, life in a van--these things will leave you with stories to tell and that's exactly what Jackass Flats did; releasing two acclaimed albums of original songwriting: "Purgatory Mountain" and "Greetings From Jackass Flats". The boys kept the old van, but soon found themselves playing the region's premiere stages and festivals.

As Jackass Flats closes in on a decade of existence, they've expanded their line up to include drums, keys, and pedal steel--propelling their sound from string band to "full tilt Americana juggernaut". With so many instruments at their disposal, the typical set finds the band everywhere from bluegrass, rockabilly, honky tonk, country, western swing, all with the energy and edge that has made the Jackass Flats show a must see.

In June of 2011 the boys released their album, "Rusty Feeling", an album whose songs range from raucous and rowdy bluegrass, to the textured and melodic sounds of progressive (non-nashville) country. The album was recorded and produced by Bobby Read (Bruce Hornsby Band, Keller Williams).

About Gallatin Canyon:

Gallatin Canyon, despite the Montana namesake, is a uniquely Virginia band through and through. Core members Ben Hernandez (mandolin), Zack Blatter (upright bass) and Luke Wilson (guitar) all hail from the musically-fertile ground of Charlottesville, Virginia. And it's there that they've cultivated their signature sound -- bluegrass music with a refreshing, modern sensibility. While this sound is deeply-rooted in the musical traditions of their home state, they have become known for reaching far beyond the confines of the bluegrass genre to adapt their favorite classic country and rock n’ roll influences into their raw, high-energy performances. From dive-bars to festivals, Gallatin Canyon has been pickin’ and grinnin’ on stages up and down the east coast since 2011, showcasing the talents of many regular, special guest appearances and brilliantly-dynamic ensembles. And with a new EP in the works, these bluegrass troubadours show no signs of slowing down.

About JJ von Brieson:

J.J. von Briesen writes and performs original pop rock country tunes with energy and passion. Her music has grown out of an enchanted combination of aspen trees and dogwood blooms, echoing her connection to her New Mexico birthplace and her Virginia hometown. After well over a decade of song writing, she is releasing her first album, Dreaming You, a collection of twelve tunes written between the ages of 13 and 23 and recorded over a two-year period. In 2000, the title track won the folk category of the international John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

The tracks on Dreaming You range from hard-rocking blues to soft, mesmerizing and reflective ballads. They straddle the experiences of heartbreak, the struggle of liminality, and the beauty of risk and travel all with brash honesty. The album features several Virginian musicians backing J.J.'s rhythmic acoustic guitar and upfront vocals. She is the girl in tight red pants with an electric guitar slung over her shoulder-but she is also the girl next door. Whether performing solo or with a band, J.J. von Briesen will shake the roof, get you dancing, and send you home wanting more.
